San Juan Island Vacation
We had a great opportunity to spend a week in the San Juan Islands
with some of our friends
While we were there Gary and I celebrated our 17th Wedding Anniversary!
What a wonderful time, we live in such a beautiful area and haven't had time to see
so many places. I haven't been here in about 35 years and Gary was getting to see
these islands for the first time.
We started at Anacortes and took the Ferry to Lopez Island
We rented a house with three other couples
the house was on a very quite part of Lopez had a great sandy beach
we sat there and watched the Ferry boats go by
One night we sat out and looked up at all the stars in the sky and saw a
Milky Way!
One other night we had a fire and sang old songs, the only ones we could remember
the words to. It was great fun.
Our friend Skip had been to the house before and he was in charge of the crabbing
So everyday that crabbing was legal Skip would row out and set up two crab pots
by the last night we had a large crab feed with all the crabs he caught.
There are wild Blackberries all over the islands so Peggy and Marilyn said they
would pick the berries if I would make Blackberry Cobbler
Well let me tell you those berries were so good we had to all go out and pick
them one more time! Yummy Blackberry Cobbler twice.
It is no wonder Gary and I need to go on a diet now, after feasting all week.

This is how we passed our time : )
Watching the Ferries go by
On day three we headed out from Lopez Island and went by ferry
over to San Juan Island
This is Pelindaba Lavender Farm
I have been buying things from here for several years
it was great to see the farm, we were able to see how they produce a lot
of the lavender items
My Sweetie giving Kay a hug
This is Lime Kiln Lighthouse
There were lots of Seals here taking a nap
Some kayaks going thur the sea kelp
This little one didn't want to wake up
so cute!

Beautiful Little Church
Day four off to Orcas Island
First stop on Orcas Island was Rosario's
Rosario Mansion was built by Robert Moran, retired shipbuilder and former Seattle mayor, who lived there from 1909-1938.
The Music Room features a stained glass window imported from Brussels and a 1,972 pipe
Aeolian pipe organ.
The grounds here were beautiful , you can see all the flowers
this first picture is the view of the harbor from the Mansion
The Music Room
The stained glass with all the ships
all the woodwork in the whole house was just like you would
find on the finest sailing ships, I haven't ever seen anything like this in a home
If you click on any of these pictures you can see them in full screen and get a better
idea of how they looked, I love this stained glass
This picture was in the lobby and the sun was shinning
very bright when I took it, but if you click
on the picture you might be able to read what is says
This is a poem written about Robert Moran and his wife and Rosario
It really is beautiful
As we were leaving we saw all these Star Fish in the water just below
Rosario
Next we drove up to Mt. Constitution in Moran State Park
The land for the State Park was given to the State by
Robert Moran, the builder of Rosario
From the tower on top of the Mt. Constitution you can see 360 degree
You can get some idea of all the Island out here
Something like 175 Islands
After a few days of Island hoping the Men needed a rest !
This was pretty funny I don't think they even saw me take this picture
they were each into there own magazines or games
The next few pictures were taking right at the house
the Blue Heron, snail, Tree frog, and plant life
the next one is a view down the beach from our place
Back in June Kay, Peggy, and myself climbed Steamboat Rock
Marilyn was not on this trip so she couldn't do it
Peggy bought us girls all shirts and made Marilyn a sign
that says she didn't climb Steamboat Rock, but she would of if she was there
Lots of fun
